I just wanted to publicly thank Anne Merewood et al for a wonderful
conference with guest
speaker Marshall Klaus. How refreshing to hear of a hospital that
embraces the chance to
teach breastfeeding to everyone involved with patient care including
housekeepers and interpreters.
Dr. Klaus delivered and excellent presentation on the Amazing Newborn and
the presence of Doulas on the outcome of maternal/infant bonding. Dr.
Susan O'Brien shared her vision for Newborn Care Excellence, which is
multidisciplinary and which Dr. Klaus suggested was history in the making
as no where has all of these disciplines been combined in a continuing
care model to insure the healthy development of families. Anne Merewood
presented her interest in Kangaroo Care and we were shown an excellent
video that she made and is available through Injoy. And finally, we were
treated to a very interesting look at how breastfeeding can be used as a
analgesic for newborn pain management during heelsticks.
Thank you again for your efforts and in making Boston a nicer place in
which to birth a baby!
