This has been an interesting discussion. When statements such as:
"I personally
have never seen a baby gaining poorly due to foremilk/hindmilk
imbalance." are made, it indicates that for most, it doesn't make
any difference. However, in SOME instances, we have found that by
being sure baby gets more "later" milk than "earlier" milk-e.g.
nursing several times on the same side before switching-baby does
better.
As with so many things, we cannot make blanket statements that apply
to every baby. Just as we have all seen babies that latch in the
wierdest way that "should" give difficulty but nurse with no
problems either for baby or mom, any of the principles will apply
for some babies but not for all. Therefore, knowing that milk
content changes over a feeding may be important for what we suggest
to one mom, but may not bea big deal for others.
