Hi Lactnetters:

In my on-going investigations concerning insurance systems and coverage
for breastfeeding-related services, I've another question/request for
you:
Does anyone have a list of medical diagnoses/criteria which could be
used to justify out-patient breast pump use? Specifically, I'm looking
for "medical need" reasons that would justify a full-service pump when
mom and baby ARE NOT separated. For example, a premature baby receiving
human milk who discharged from the hospital before being able to
effectively transfer milk at breast. (Before you all get upset, yes, I
agree that this shouldn't happen in the first place, but that is a
different position paper I'm working on). I'm trying to sell this
concept to managed care companies, so the more medically- and
financially-oriented you can make your examples, the better. The
approximate length of time the pump would be needed (or periods at which
follow-up would be indicated) would be useful as well.

TIA!
