Overheard at our local pediatric floor this week, as I put in an 11 month
old's diet order to reflect his multiple food allergies.

Her: Allergic to milk, eggs, wheat, etc. what formula are you going to put
the baby on now?

Me: None. He's breast fed.

Her: Well, if mom wanted to put the baby on formula, what formula would you
put him on?

Me: She doesn't want to put the baby on formula. She wants to breast feed.

Her: Well, she can't breast feed him forever. Soy milk, maybe?

Me: I hope she will breast feed as long as she can, to help reduce his
future risk of additional atopy.

Sigh.
