I remember back in the 70's when the hospital where I worked changed to
green soap to clean delivery rooms, the beds we placed babies in and
transport warmers.  They had previously used a phenol-based cleaner and
that has been implicated in elevated bilirubin levels in babies.  So the
notion of leftover chemicals in a new unit may be worth looking at.
