The web site is pretty accurate as to what we do in our unit regarding
breastfeeding. Except: We encourage Kangaroo holding as soon as the baby is
stable, then progress to Non Nurtitive suckling at the breast when baby is (of
course extubated) and acting interested in sucking during Kangaroo holding. We
then progress to Breast one time per 24hrs, once they are on bolus feedings.
Then gradually add the # of breastfeedings per day as the baby tol. We have a
whole P&P tiltled "Early Breastfeeding the Premature Infant".
