I would add something that, although implicit in previous posts, may be
worth saying explicitly.
The mammogram this woman is going to get this tme may not be "the"
baseline mammogram because of lactation.
It can probably be, however, a reference as long as she breastfeed (for
some woman that can be a long period, right? ;-) ). And when she will
wean, she will have another that will become "the"baseline from then on.
If she just waits for weaning she may loose an opportunity for
prevention of breast cancer, even if she is just planning the mammogram
as a routine thing and not for a reason.
I think she should plan and decide about doing a mammogram just as any
non-lactating woman.
I have recently been at a workshop on breast cancer and breastfeeding,
and one point that has been emphasized was that often pregnant and
lactating woman face a late diagnosis because it is widely thought that
"you cannot do exams while you are pregnant or lactating".
A late diagnosis heavily worsen the outcomes. And, of course, was
clearly said that mammograms and other exams are well possible and
useful in lactating breasts.

Happy New Year!
