This may be the physiology of menopause but in order to lactate, one
does not need ovaries, functional or otherwise. I was asked earlier
today to clarify what I meant in a previous post about ovaries and milk
supply. Perhaps it is the possibility of a connection in infertility and
milk supply difficulty (speculative at best) that leads people to make
the equation between ovaries and breast function. Quite the contrary, it
is an intact pituitary that is necessary; the mammary gland(s) will
respond to hormonal stimulation if they are functional. My own little
crusade, I guess to stamp out inaccurate information.
