Barbara and Kathleen,

I want to thank you for validating my concerns, and offering discussion
in a very professional manner. I was very concerned about discussing this
topic, and I personally had no desire to offend anyone. I am, however, very
concerned about the state of our profession, and feel that our future lies in
organized educational process and licensure. If you take a look at the
professions that are respected in the medical community, they often have college
degree programs and are sanctioned by licensure on a state by state basis. I
am continuously concerned about the ability of person's who can pass the IBCLC
exam with minimal competency, but I truly get all of the points that Barbara
set forth. However, in the State of Florida, and many states across the
country, once someone has an RN license, they are NEVER required to retest. It
is not something that in any way helps the nursing profession, but I will
never have to take an NCLEX exam again.
