Hello all,
I have to say that if my oldest son's first pediatrician had paid attention
to me, his severe problem of Reflux would never had gone on as long as it
did. Almost 2 years! After going in at least three times a month for over a
year (when it became clear to me that he wasn't just spitting up a lot
anymore since he had started solids) the doctor told me that I was a neurotic
mom and that Chris just had a sensitive gag reflex. I knew he was wrong,
especially when this poor kid would throw up while sitting in a shopping cart
doing absolutely nothing! When this JERK stuck a tongue depressor in Chris's
mouth and held it there, supposedly trying to get a good look at his throat,
causing Chris to throw up (all over the Ped I might add) he called Chris a
filthy name and said "See, I told you it's his gag reflex", I about hit the
roof! I called him every name in the book and then some, reported him to his
superiors and insisted on a change in Peds. The next Ped was fabulous, and
he and his wife (who is also a Ped) diagnosed Reflux and the problem was
corrected. Unfortunately, Because the Reflux wasn't diagnosed until Chris
was almost 2, we have had a lot of food related problems to work out. All
because some Dr. thought I was a neurotic mom, and he thought he knew it all.
BTW, Chris had started regressing developmentally, was losing weight, fast,
and had stopped gowing. He was literally starving, slowly. When the reflux
was corrected (his was a borderline surgery case. We tried Reglen first and
it worked!) he slowly started getting back to normal, but he's had food probs
ever since. Who can blame him?
My advice to all moms I talk to is if theu think something is wrong and a Dr.
treats them like an idiot, get a second opinion. And if they still aren't
satified, try a third. It can't hurt and the mom feels better, knowing that
she's doing what is best for her child.

Off my box...

Quick question. I know there was a string going about vaccines a while back,
but my hard drive crashed while I was saving the info.. guess where it went?
Anyway< I have been advised to get a MMR booster and wanted to double check
that it was OK while BF. I'm pretty sure it is, but wanted to double check.
Also, how about the Hep B?

TIA All!
