My most impossible outcome regarding delayed milk supply was with a client
who had only drops for a couple of weeks. She used SNS until she tired of
that, then moved to bottles for formula and baby at breast with compression
throughout feedings. She also stopped pumping because the output was so
minimal. There was a lot of formula going in but she continued to feed at
breast, building up some respectable hand muscles if not much milk. She
used herbs for only a short while. This case was before I knew about
domperidone.

Then one day...3 months from the birth she awoke with full breasts and
leaking on the bed. She had a milk supply adequate to her baby's needs and
never supplemented again.

She was not a mother who, in my presumed-accurate assessment, would
continue working at breastfeeding beyond a couple of weeks. Since that time
I have stopped such "assessing" and I have stopped saying "never."

It is certainly not easy for a mother to remain dedicated in the face of
little to show for her efforts. She is on my "hero" list.
