One of my lactating nursing colleagues received a needle stick from a
client with an unregistered HIV status. The emergency room protocol
required that she be treated with 2 types of drugs within 2 hours of the
accident. Retrovir and another( sorry my mind is blank) They could only
advise her to wean until the client status is confirmed and continue the
drugs. She is very upset and local resources were not helpful in
reassuring her. Fortunatley she as a working mom has a large stock of
frozen breast milk so her infant will not be on formula unnessesarily.
since we don't have internet access at work, my printed resources gave me
limited information.
