As per someone's comment -- the original post says very little except that
the little boy is "well below the 3rd percentile for weight" and that he
"doesn't eat enough to gain weight."  I will send on the wonderful replies I
have received so far, and continue to ask for more ideas.  This mom is just
beginning to take an assertive stance with the doctors.  Thanks all!
