I rarely see IUGR on the baby's assessment physical in the hospital chart.
I most often see SGA, or Small for Gestational Age, sometimes with a note in
mom's chart about a placental problem or a finding in baby's chart about two
cords in the umbilical cord. There seems to be a bunch of these small babies
recently in my area and sometimes the mom smoked during her pregnancy, but
not always. Several of the babies have breastfed well from the beginning, but
more often than not, they act immature, more like a preterm infant and don't
always get off to a good start with nursing.
