WHO Code, an agreement worked out between WHO, health professionals,
*and industry* (don't forget to mention that industry was part of the
making of the WHO code), to make sure that infant formula is marketed
ethically. That's all. It means:
1. no marketing directly to the public
2. an ethical relationship with the health system (no free supplies,
no advertising in health facilities)
3. an ethical relationship with health professionals
4. no inducements in retail outlets to buy formula (discounts etc)
5. proper labelling of breastmilk substitutes
A few points:
1. Everything that can substitute for breastmilk is covered in the
code (followup formulas, teats, bottles, teas, even weaning foods)
2. The code is a minimum to be strengthened by local jurisdictions as
they see fit
3. It applies to *every* country in the world
4. It does not ban selling formula
