An NGO is a non-governmental, non-commercial organization. This is actually an international term. It is often used to identify an organization that is in official relations with governmental or inter-governmental entities- such as World Health Organization (WHO). Many NGOs are in the foreign aid business and most organizations in the US that are NGOs are also not-for-profit, like La Leche League International (LLLI) and International Lactation Consultant Association (ILCA).
