Mothers are discouraged from eating peanuts in any form during pregnancy
because of increased risk of serious allergy problems for the infant. It
would seem to follow through into lactation. Parents are discouraged from
giving peanut butter to children under the age of two. Peanut allergies can
be life-threatening.

My niece went through severe allergy problems with her third child and he
had a work-up at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore. That is where she got this
information. For her child, eggs were also a major problem. She had to
limit dairy and eat no eggs or any nuts during the 15 months she breastfed
him.
All his allergy problems now are quite mild and he is a typical 4 year old.
She still keeps him away from peanut butter.

This infant's problem seems more like a mild virus than an allergic reaction
in my opinion.
