Hey - guys - remember, the exam is for BEGINNING Lc's, not experienced ones. NO one on
God's green earth can remember 100% of ANY subject and it's possibile variations. That's why I have a shelf-full of references for the unusual things and for meds. The mark of an intelligent person is that they know where to look for information, not that they know everything under the sun! I think the exam sometimes gets harder for experienced Lc's because we know there are more than 2 ways to 'skin a cat' and one set of pictures can describe many things. Unless you are given the pics ahead of time and asked to repeat back the given answer!

Thank you Mirine and Veronica for this great info, ...my youngest son is just starting the Nuc Eng program at UTK so I am forwarding this info to him so  he will be up on this issue should he come across any Bf moms over the next 4-5  yrs in college.

For some odd reason I like writing exam questions. Consider reviewing the IBLCE requirements (citing research/sources) and submitting some IBCLC exam questions. I am not an expert in the nuclear material  exposure to Bf moms area, but anyway here are some *just for fun* sample  questions based on your post:

1. To help protect breastfeeding children of lactating women who work in Nuclear Power Plants, a document on breastfeeding and radioisotopes was developed by the:

a) Division of Radiation Safety
b) International Commission for Radiation Protection
c) Regulatory Commission for Nuclear Power Plants

2. A breastfeeding radiation worker is capable of transmitting  radioactive material to her child if she herself receives an uptake that  is:

a) external
b) internal
c) external or internal

3. Not all radioactive material is a concern to breast-feeding women; regarding radioiodine, the potential for uptake and subsequent transmission  to a child via breast milk is greatest for forms that are:

a) volatile
b) in-volatile
c) both a and b

4. A breast-feeding woman may choose to declare her breast-feeding status to
the:

a) Division of Radiation Safety
b) International Commission of Radiation Protection
c) Regulatory Commission for Nuclear Power Plants

5. A declared breast-feeding radiation worker will have her potential  for internal uptake assessed and precautions agreed upon so that the  child's dose will be below the general public per year millirem dose limit  of:

a) 100
b) 200
c) 300

6. The declared breast-feeding worker may rescind her  breast-feeding
declaration:

a) at her discretion
b) when her physician provides authorization
c) at the time of complete breastmilk weaning

Yey, that was fun, ...crazy huh?

Best Regards,
