I finally finished wading through all the wonderful Lactnet mail that I
missed during the 5 days AOL was down on my end. Whew we can be windy at
times, but the stuff as always, was GREAT.
I found a message from Kathleen B about some people thinking they were being
attacked for post or as a group and that a lot of you are lurking. :-)
Anyway, I looked at one of my last posts (already out I'm afraid) and thought
oops :~( now that could be taken as an attack. I had asked for references.
Now if I had spoken those exact same words: *Cite your references* it would
sound like I was very curious about the information not like I thought the
person was really wrong. However, the written word--having no auditory
intonation--can be taken many ways. The greatest example I can think of is
scripture (without getting religious or anything) people *take* it how they
read it.
This is a forum for learning, for sharing and occasionally, griping.
For those of you new to Lactnet I want you all to know that during the 7
months I was off work, had 2 major operation and was confined to bed in a
body cast: that the lactnetters kept me sane and kept sharpening my skills as
an LC.
I've learned so much from those that do post that I can't imagine how much
the lurkers have yet to teach me.
If you are silent we'll never share anything.
My daughter brought me a quote the other day that I liked *One never tests
the depth of a river with both feet* but you have to at least stick a foot
in. A lot of the personalities on the lactnet shine through--most of us would
jump in a river with both feet and perhaps we falsely believe that others are
like ourselves (radical, zealots, hungry for knowledge and the persuit of
breastmilk in all things). There is no attempt to dominate or blast people
out of the water--at least not on purpose anyway.
So *ollie--ollie oxen free* come out come out where ever you are. . .
OK, OK I'm stepping of the soap box--next?
