Dear Ida,

The swings in the moms production and poor gain of the baby suggest that
althought the baby was attaching to the breast he/she was not really
breastfeeding. In these situations, the body gets the message that baby
is weaning and salt levels in milk goes up. when she pumped, she
increased supply and stimulation and salt levels go down. There is an
article in Jpeds or pediatrics in the last 6 months that correlate high
salt levels in milk which do not decrease with failure to bf
succesfully.

For mom to have prblems wiht pituitary, I dont know. Any info on her
sodium levels in her blood??? Plus from what you said when she pumped
her thirst decreased and thats also when making the most milk, Before
incriminating the pituitary, look for other reasons for this mom to drink
a lot : hot summer, dry air from heating or aircondition....

Marylle
