I was so upset by this message that I could hardly respond. Here we have a
baby who is not only normal but is developing a wonderful, strong attachment
to his mother and this is seen as a PROBLEM!! It breaks my heart that this
little guy was doing his best to create strong bonds with his mother by
letting everyone know that he wasn't happy with other people, and what was
the result? Now he's been deprived of her milk, left to cry himself to sleep
at night and separated from her even more. It just breaks my heart.

All four of my children nursed frequently day and night and always wanted to
be with me. My daughter Lisa did not want to be away from me at all until
she was four years old. She was with me 24/7 - literally - until she was
ready to separate from me for brief periods of time at age four. Not only
does she not have an attachment disorder, today at age 25, she has a warm,
close relationship with me and enjoys traveling around the world for work
and pleasure.

Please let that mother know that she can resume breastfeeding and that she
might want to get a second or third opinion, preferably from someone who
actually knows something about normal infant development and attachment.
