What do you use to collect hand expressed colostrum for NICU babies? I have used a medicine cup for collection and the milk is put into a syringe for transport and storage. NICU wants milk collected in a sterile syringe. This isn't easy for new moms to do especially without help from someone else.

Our policy for cleaning pump parts is to wash with soap and water between uses and sterilize parts once a day, in hospital a sterile set is given out once each day, so I argue, pump parts are not sterile so why does milk/colostrum need to be collected directly into a sterile syringe when if the woman was pumping her milk would come in contact with non sterile pump parts.
