>A mother of an infant or young child doesn't need to be puking her
guts out from food poisoning<

However, if she is, after having enjoyed her sushi, cookie dough, too much
beer (another cause), or whatever, here's a practical tip. I haven't
checked this with US toilets (yeah folks each country has their own design)
but when I had stomach flu I discovered that the design of a British toilet
gives you room to tuck the baby underneath -- while you lean over to spew,
the baby can keep on breastfeeding! Presumably there is an age at which the
child will no longer comfortably fit ... I seem to remember mine was getting
on for being a hefty one-year old.

I remember wishing I hadn't had to discover that, but when you are on your
own with a baby and are vomitting all day, actually keeping the kid latched
on all the time either while lying on the sofa or hunched over the toilet
seemed the only way to do it.
