Thanks for all the posts related to peanut allergy.

This is more information from the mother who posed the question of
introducing peanuts into her diet thinking this might be a safe way to
decrease the risk of peanut allergy in her exclusively breastfed 5 month old.

Also, Laurie Wheeler wanted to know just how allergic the dad was, and this
is her answer.

" I guess I'll just stay away (from peanuts) for now. I haven't been using
any dairy (can you say limited diet?) since the baby was a month old for gas
reasons in the baby. It helped tremendously. My point is that I have been
using soy milk since then and taking calcium supplements. I also eat tofu.
So... My husbands allergy is not life-threatening...he becomes sick to his
stomach and definitely has distressed breathing as well as hives. These are
his reactions to almonds, but peanuts and cashews have caused the same
reactions only much worse. Thanks again"

My questions now are: The fact that peanuts are from the bean family, does
this mean she should avoid all beans, and secondly, what is the difference
between beans and legumes? Can she eat brown beans, black beans, chick
peas, lentils, etc, or are these related to soy beans, and also peanuts?

Thanks again,

Kathy Bodden
