I have just run across a reference to The Black Parenting Book: Caring for
Our Children in the First Five Years by Anne C. Beal '84, Linda Villarosa,
and Allison Abner (Broadway Books, 402 pages, $20). I haven't seen the
book, but if anyone has, I'd like to hear how it seems to someone in the
lactation field.

Given the terrible infant survival statistics for black babies in the US, is
there extra emphasis on breastfeeding in this book? Does it address the
particular cultural and economic barriers to breastfeeding that black women
face in the US? And otherwise, does it seem like a good reference book for
helping parents deal with racism?
