I read James McKenna's letter with such pleasure. We are very blessed in
this field to have a number of knowledgeable people who are either excellent
researchers (like Jim McKenna) or outstanding practitioners (like Linda
Smith and Jack Newman and Jay Gordon and so many more...) who can also
express themselves clearly and effectively.

Thank you for also posting the link to the original column. I think it is
almost funny that someone might expect a family with a four-year-old, a
two-year-old and a newborn baby to anything but chaos! With small children,
chaos is normal.

I was also troubled by Rosemond's comments that it is generally women who
initiate the family bed, as if that alone should make us suspicious of it.
Certainly sounds rather misogynist to me. (I must write to him and tell him
that my son insisted on a family bed with their baby.) And his comments
about the baby needing to learn, apparently from birth, that he's excluded
from the marital relationship remind me of what I've heard from others -
that objections to the family bed are usually from men concerned that the
husband won't get enough sex.
