Hi All,
Well, Cathy wrote:

You will be happy to know that I did give them and education this morning
(Fri), and I plan on sending them several pieces of referenced information
(as soon as I can find it - it is still packed... :/ ). I talked to the Ped
this morning and very ploitely let her know what I do for a living. :)
Then I explained to her that 2/3 oz of ABM CAN indeed cause problems (and
what they were in babies allergic to dairy and babies NOT allergic to
dairy), and that Soy is also an allergy problem for babies allergic to
dairy. Also talked to her about Kangaroo care and asked her toshow me
references that state that mothers body temp can't regulate babys body temp.
(She had none) I promise (to you) to get her Paula Meiers info ASAP. I
discussed the misinformation about pre-digested ABMs being less allergenic
than breastmilk and how that simply was NOT true, and why. I then did
damage control for the midwifery community and told her that no
self-respecting midwife in this area would EVER deliver twins at home
deliberately, and these two women were not well respected in the community
and that the midwifery community here would take care of them. She told me
(about the BF information) that she didn't learn anything in med school and
that what she knew was really what she picked up along the way. I think I
will send them info on CLE classes coming up...Chele will be doing something
up here again soon, I believe... I believe that I will write a letter to
the head of the department explaining the misinformation that was given and
how damaging it can be to the parents confindence to choose wisely for thier
infants.

For those of you who know how "HOT" I can get, I was very appropriate and
nice about the whole thing. It was VERY hard not to just say "Are you
stupid????? Why are you telling people such crap??????" But I was a good
girl and made friends not enemies. ;) Tho I did tell them I was my friends
sister, and they let me go into the NICU without mom (not something they
allow at all, normally) and I was able to go places that I don't think
"friends" are allowed to go. I also told them that I was a CLE and was
there to help my "sis" with her BF both babies. (so a little white lie...it
really helped tho! I was able to give specific instructions for baby 2 -
who is still having a hard time - which I doubt they would have listened to
had they known I was "just" a friend.)

Thanks for being MY support!
