I did a search for MS and breastfeeding and I got a zillion hits. Every
time m was followed by s the post was listed. For example, theMSelves,
muMS, seeMS, probleMS. You get the picture. You can imagine how many times
someone wrote "seems" or "problems."

So I need help with a mother with MS who wants to breastfeed. My client's
symptoms are getting worse since her baby was born 2 weeks ago. She has
been advised to stop breastfeeding so that she can get more rest. Baby had
some latch problems and she was pumping and cup or finger feeding to get
some weight gain. He is a good weight, but she is tired and stressed. She
believes that breastfeeding is going to create more stress than formula
feeding would. She is seeing her specialist tomorrow and I fear that the
end of breastfeeding is in sight.

I told her that formula fed babies are sick more and she hadn't ever heard
of that. I was surprised. We talked about it a bit.

I know that we have discussed MS (beyond seems and problems) but will
someone enlighten us again on the impact of breasfeeding on this illness. I
will keep the posts with a subject line that reflects what is in there.

Thank you,

Pat Gima, IBCLC
