I'm a student working with a mom and 2 week old girl.  Her first child had a tongue tie release at 2 months, and the mom felt pain with breastfeeding the entire 19 months that she breast fed him.  I'm surprised she went that long.  The little girl's tongue tie was released, just in case, at 2 days.  The mom still feels quite a bit of pain during feedings.  We were able to get the pain from a 7-8 to a 3-4 with a deeper latch.  I checked the baby's mouth, and she's got a high palate--it feels like she's got a cliff behind her gums.  I presume this is from her tongue not being able to provide pressure to flatten the palate during fetal development.  We are guessing that the continued pain is from the high palate.  I have not found any references to whether or not the palate can flatten out after a tongue tie release, and if so, how long it takes.  Anyone have any idea if a palate can flatten out after birth, and if so, how long does it take? 
 This mom wants to see the light at the end of the tunnel!
