I just keep wondering whether lactational amennorhea will continue until
this thread is over! My story (and I'm not proud of it):
#1 - 1983 - bf. about 9 mos., supplemented with juice from 3 mos.,
solids at 3.5 mos. -- no co-sleeping -- menses at 8 mos., pregnant at 9
mos.
#2 - 1984 - bf. 12 mos., supplemented with juice, formula and solids
after 3 mos. during single parenting / working -- no co-sleeping until
3.5 years old -- menses returned at 9 mos.
#3 & #4 - 1993 - LLL member since 1993! - bf 23 mos - minimal
supplements after 3 mos. and solids at 4.5 when weight gain stopped. --
co-sleeping: same bed until 2.7 years, same room 1 until 6 years, 1
still -- menses returned at 18 mos. while cutting back on daytime naps
-- pregnant at 20 mos.
#5 & #6 - 1996 - FTT, retained placenta (I think) - bf 37 mos.
--combined feedings mos. 1 - 5 mos., solids at 5.5 mos. -- co-sleeping:
same bed until 3.3 years, same room 1 until 4.5 years, 1 still -- menses
returned 19 mos., pregnant at 30 mos.
#7 - 1999 - LLLL - bf, pumping and ebm only - solids at 7 mos. -
co-sleeping: still, 17.5 mos. and counting...
My impression was that my cycles would return naturally at 9 mos. for a
singleton and 18 mos. with twins. I now suspect that supplementation and
early solids have something to do with it, but co-sleeping has more. I
can't really say when they started sleeping through the night, because
they don't, really, even at 16 and 17. They stopped nursing at night at
about the same time menses returned.
Jo-Anne - sorry for the long post, but I can't help it.
