I've been a little surprised that I've seen little discussion of this on
Lactnet over the years. In my family afterbirth pain (uterine contractions)
is excruciating. It gets worse with each baby, only lasted a few days,
worse during breastfeeds. A confession: when my fourth baby was born I snuck
pain pills in my suitcase to take at the hospital because I knew the doctors
never gave me enough. . When one of my daughters had her 3rd baby she had
to stop several nursings one day ( 3rd or 4th day postpartum) because she
was in so much pain when he nursed. My mother told me that she and other
women in the family thought it was much worse than childbirth.
