Dear Friends:
I am working with a 22 year old first time mother now. When she was 15,
she had her Triple-D breasts reduced. The surgeon told her that part of the
surgery would involve putting the nipples up high, so that this girl's
breasts would look perky all of her life.
At 15, what did she know? It sounded good.
Amazingly, she seems to have a fairly decent supply. However, those high
nipples have been a nuisance. They are so high that they stick out of bathing
suits and bras. So finding swimwear and underwear has been a challenge.
It is also a challenge for latch. Right now, because she is recovering
from a cesarean section, she is nursing lying on her back, with baby latching
well to both sides as he lies prone. When she feels stronger, we will have to
experiment with positioning.
     Any suggestions?
     Warmly,
Nikki Lee RN, MSN, Mother of 2, IBCLC, CIMI, CCE, craniosacral therapy
