The id # is just a record number, you can let access just assign them 
sequentially (1,2,3,4...).
I would recommend a separate database for clients and rentals. You can 
always crosslink the records if one person both rents something and 
comes for a consult.

I so wish Microsoft had not won the office suite wars, Approach 
(purchased by lotus a zillion years ago) was so much more user friendly.
