Hi all: I'm not sure if this has been discussed previously on lactnet,
but I'm wondering if anyone is noticing oversupply issues in moms taking
certain antidepressants? We currently are seeing oversupply with two
mothers attending our clinic, who both happen to be on antidepressants,
one on sertraline(zoloft) and one on fluvoxamine (luvox). While
researching these meds on TOXNET (LACTMED), I found the following
information:

Sertraline has caused galactorrhea in nonpregnant, nonnursing
patients.[13][14] The clinical relevance of these findings in nursing
mothers is not known. The prolactin level in a mother with established
lactation may not affect her ability to breastfeed.

Fluvoxamine has caused increased prolactin levels and galactorrhea in
nonpregnant, nonnursing patients.[6][7][8] The clinical relevance of
these findings in nursing mothers is not known. The prolactin level in a
mother with established lactation may not affect her ability to
breastfeed

This could be a total coincidence, but perhaps others have noticed it as
well?

Thanks in advance, Doreen Vanderstoep, RN, IBCLC, Ontario, Canada
