I visited this site and they said the reason so many of the babies they
serve are bottled fed is that they are cared for by people other than their
mothers. This is their words (without permission):

"Many of these children are bottle fed, in great part because so many are
cared for by someone other than their mothers. Tragically, it's during these
formative years for the child that we often see poor families forced to
water down infant formula, substitute milk, or to give babies solid food
long before they are ready. Consequences from this type of infant
malnutrition are often devestating and permanent. "

This organization is in my backyard. I did write to them offering to hlep
them add a component to their program promoting breastfeeding to the mothers
they serve, and to help reinforce the message that breastmilk is what babies
should be fed. I suggested they could launch such a program during World
Breastfeeding Week. If I should get a reply, I'll let you all know. If
anyone else is in the Philly area and is interested in helping this group
(BabyManna is part of the Greater Philadelphia Food Bank), I suggest a short
note or phone call to them might help. They do seem well intentioned.

I guess that is my opinion!
