Hyperbilirubinemia can be a sign of serious health issues such as sepsis and
blood incompatibilities. The role of an LC is not to provide medical care
for babies or their mothers or to give medical advice. In a situation such as
Dee Kassing, BS, MLS, IBCLC describes, I would be in immediate contact with the
baby's PHCP, collaborating, not giving medical advice.
Christy Ann Flynn, RN
