More discussion on Vitamin D and Breastfeeding:

It is nice to know that there is a Vitamin D only supplement available, but the
information on the web site given in the post "Vit D only drops" is not correct
about breastfeeding and Vitamin D. It is far better to supplement the lactating
mother than to supplement the infant with Vitamin D because mom benefits
and so does the infant via adequate Vitamin D in the breastmilk. For a more
complete discussion of this topic, see:
http://www.ajcn.org/cgi/content/full/79/5/717

Another very important article to read is: "The effect of high-dose vitamin D
supplementation on serum vitamin D levels and milk calcium concentration in
lactating women and their infants." To see the abstract, go to PubMed and
enter the number: 17661558 in the “search” field. You can also search
PubMed for “Breastfeeding and Bruce Hollis” for more.

Here is a discussion about the new AAP guidelines not going far enough for
older children: http://children.webmd.com/news/20081013/vitamin-d-new-
guidelines-for-children

Even in Hawaii the Vitamin D issue needs to be addressed!
