I have only just picked up on this thread, but we have a protocol here
in the base hospital for babies being weighed after birth in prone
position on a warm towell. This reduces emotional stress and cold
stress enormously.

Also, as a midwife, I never "allow" the baby to be in a supine position
even during birthing. Keeping a baby prone over my outstretched hand,
between the birth canal and mum's skin is the kindest way to handle a
baby during this delicate time of birth.

Also adding into our protocol for BFHI that babies are not weighed
until after S2S and first breastfeed has been achieved.

All basic common sense I think but hard to shake old habits.

If I recall correctly it was at this past years' ILCA Conference where
Ni=
ls
Bergman mentioned in his discussion of STS that babies can be removed
fro=
m
mother's chest in prone position, placed carefully on the scale in
prone
position, weighed and then returned for more STS/nursing, all done
with
little or no crying, therefor less stress. Anyone else remember
hearing =
this?
