I would LOVE to hear what the other silent 3000 have to say. I am thrilled
that some are speaking out and sharing their feelings and opinions! Thank
you so much for coming forward!

We still need everyone to speak out, everyone to write IBLCE - don't stop
just because they say they are looking into the issue. They have not yet
rescinded that SoP - we ALL need to write and insist that they do.

Tomorrow (Thursday) I host my first New Mommy/Parent Group. I am so
thrilled! However, I also know that I will be violating the new SoP all
over the place simply by giving information I know to be correct. Such is
life - the posts that say our first obligation is to the parent are correct
(in my opinion). That is what I will do.

In regards to it being unethical to do phone consults - I am really confused
by that. There are many IBCLC's all over the country who do this - many
charge for that in fact (I don't charge for that, however). If I told a mom
I could not help her over the phone and that I would have to see her in
person for every single issue I'd be out of business in a heartbeat! Many
times, the phone consult is simply a way to triage the situation and then
make an educated determination as to whether the mother can be helped over
the phone or not. If she can be helped over the phone, I do that and
included in that consult is a statement to see her Doc, check with the Ped,
etc. If she needs an in home visit then that is what she is told. Then she
is given information to keep her going and stabilize the situation until I
get there.

At any rate - to all of you out there who can't get a word in because I'm
over here talking away - Chime in! We'd love to hear from you!! Make
yourselves heard! It would be a fun day or two for Lactnet to hear from
most everyone!! :-)

Warmly,

Jaye Simpson, IBCLC, CIIM, MOM
