I saw a baby today who really worried me. She was born two days ago at 38
weeks by VE. Mother had not been able to latch her onto the breast, and
had given the baby colostrum in a small spoon, and one bottle at night. I
don't usually like to do digital exams, but for some reason I felt the need
to do one on this baby. She had a very strange suck. There were maybe one
or two tiny sucks, then her tongue started this really intense tremor, so
strong that it made my hand shake, as well as the baby's head.

I immediately asked one of the docs to check her. He said that he noticed
the tremor, but as long as the baby could drink from a bottle and her
glucose levels were normal, he did not see it as a problem :-/.

He equated it to the jitters that some babies have in the first 3 months.

Has anyone ever seen anything like this? It seems to me some sort of
neurological issue, maybe due to the vacuum birth?
