I think what Barbara WC said is right on. We can work for some company or rent pumps or whatever and still provide ethical services. It is all in how it is done. Are we doing what is best for our bottom line (profit) or are we doing what we feel is best for the mother/baby? For example, one major pump manufacturer had a little in-service that I attended in which the speaker, an IBCLC, did no disclaimer that I heard or read on how she was employed by this company and bashed the other brand over and over (and some of it sounded made up). Then I went to see Nancy M at a Hollister talk and was very impressed with how she mentioned she was paid by Hollister several times in the talk, did no bashing of other brands, talked matter of factly and professionally about the other brands, and her CV said she was a Hollister employee (as a potential conflict of interest). Straight out and professional and no product bashing -- this is what I call ethical.
