It depends on what your definition of "mention" is. (How's that for a
Clintonesque statement?)

I am often troubled by the number of non-MDs who offer advice to parents
about medical or surgical issues. I, for one, don't ever want to be hauled
into court for practicing medicine without a license. So I think it's ok to
say to parents..."Has Dr. X considered..." and okay to make parents aware
of treatment options, and okay to become their advocate if the doctor is
*not* telling them all of the options. (This issue, or any other.) But I
don't think non-MDs have any business offering medical advice. There is a
difference between making parents aware of options, and offering advice
about the efficacy of those options.
