Barbara Wilson-Clay is so right about the desperate need for information
regarding normal breastfeeding. This same need was expressed by Linda
Smith in the last issue of the JHL (Consultant's Corner). So many
interventions are needless because breastfeeding is doing fine, but the
practitioner doesn't recognize it...doesn't know normal, doesn't
appreciate the development of breastfeeding in different situations,
has not observed long-term breastfeeding in a mother to mother support
group to learn how breastfeeding really happens.

We all have opportunities to observe and report clinical
experiences...and not just on Lactnet. Many of us are decent writers and
could publish case study scenerios, do preliminary research with small
populations, etc. The JHL provides such a venue. Nutrition and nursing
journals can also be good opprtunities for disemination of information.
Perhaps this could be an issue for discussion at ILCA in July.
