My first concern with flagyl was based on the report in Drugs in pregnancy
and Lactation ( I believe Briggs ) That urged caution. This mom was also in
no condition to nurse as she was very ill, she was also on a lot of MS and
was only one week post partum. She was also on a drug called Promaxin. This
mom chose to pump and dump until she was off the flagyl. I later found out
from the U of W Care Northwest that flagyl was OK ( no reported effects of
concern) The new drug promaxin has no reported data. The physician at the
hotline stated that because of the babies age and the possible effects on
adults who take this med. she felt that pump and dump was the right course
for this mom. By the way "the rest of the story" The mom is doing better,
off the meds, and the baby went back to the breast like he'd never been away.
Dr. Tom Hale also wrote that flagyl in usual doses is OK. I learned from
this experience that it is important to carefully research medications, to
consider the age of the infant, and to always give mom the information so
that she makes the decision.

Linda Rosetti RN, IBCLC ( I was SOOO glad to find lactnet mail back in my
mailbox. If anyone has trouble not receiving mail on AOL, first so a query
to see if you're commands are right, then send for review lactnet... to the
listserv. After I found out I was still on I contacted AOL by teck support
live and they somehow got me back on)
