Dear Lactnet Friends:

In addition to omission identified by Norma Ritter, (tap water is not to be
used for preparing formula) I found it very annoying that there was such an
emphasis placed on how safe and nutritious are infant formulae. The whole
reason for the renewed focus on safe formula preparation is that babies
died.

But then, at the end of the video, you'll see that the Infant Formula
Council worked with NAPNAP to make it. I can't imagine the Infant Formula
Council giving accurate information about the health risks of formula use.
I am talking about increasing the risk of SIDS, and triggering diabetes and
obesity, among many others.

The point Norma identified is part of the conundrum about powdered formula:
the water to make should be 158 degrees F (70 degrees C)....but boiling
water concentrates the solutes in it. If the family lives in an old house
with lead plumbing, the lead content of the water will be increased. But
using tap or cold water won't kill the germs. Ack...what to do??
