This comment raises a question for me: Are there any standards or
guidelines on when & why to use HMFs? In my computer research to report my
hospital's infant feeding stats, I have found numerous times when a baby in
our Level II, the so-called "grower-feeders" are fed mom's EBM with HMF
mixed in. The emphasis seems to be on gaining weight very well so they can
be discharged sooner.

Why use HMF at all in a Level II nursery for a baby in an open air crib and
supposedly feeding well 8 times a day? I'm going to ask this of our NICU
RNs also.
