I found more references on smoking and breastfeeding that may be of use to
Lactnetters looking for them:
Hopkinson J, et al: Milk production by mothers of premature infants:
influence of cigarette smoking. Pediatrics 1992; 90:934-938. This study
demonstrates a relationship between smoking and decrreased milk production as
well as a lower fat content in the milk of mothers who smoked.

Kahn A, et al: Prenatal exposure to cigarettes in infants with obstructive
sleep apneas. Pediatrics 1994; 93:778-783
This showed an increased frequency of sleep apnea and speculated that smoking
interfered with the baby's ability to regulate the upper airway during sleep

Kotzer AM: Maternal smoking and infant sleep behavior. Neonatal Network 1994;
13:65
This study postulated that fetal exposure to maternal smoking interfered with
state regulation and disturbed infant sleep balances

Stepans MB, Wilkerson N: Physiologic effects of maternal smoking on
breast-feeding infants. J of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners
1993; 5:105-113
This study showed that breastfed infants of smoking mothers had a significant
change in respirations and oxygen saturation after nursing

Owen MJ, et al: Relation of infant feeding practices, cigarette smoke
exposure, and group child care to the onset and duration of otitis media with
effusion in the first two years of life. J Pediatrics 1993; 123:702-711
More cigarettes smoked by household members was associated with longer
duration of otitis media

Hope this is helpful
