Just heard a very brief report on NPR's nightly business show, "Market Place"
saying that Malaysia had just enacted a strict code on the marketing of ABM
(that's stands for "artificial breast milk," I think, i.e., formula). The
report said that all advertising, free samples and marketing of ABM through
Drs. and hospitals was to be prohibited, and that Drs. and hospitals that
didn't comply would be "blacklisted" The tone of the report was not completely
neutral, I now see, because they used "blacklisted," which sounds like
something unsavory. I can only guess that means they won't be allowed to get
gov't money, which sounds like a reasonable remedy to me. After all, they
could use a criminal penalty as a sanction for violation (she said, rubbing her
hands together with glee at the thought of evil formula reps and hospital
administrators in prison!!)

I forgot to get Market Place's email address off the broadcast. Maybe one of
you West Coast people will see this in time to hear the report and get their
email address out so we can respond.
