I don't think I've seen this recently here and when I tried to access
archives my computer deactivated for hours... your views on CMV? I am
tracking down references which seem to tell me it is transferred via
breastmilk and this is no problem for the term baby but could be a problem
for a premie. The only problems I find listed re premies [Lawrence and BF
Answer Book] seem to be connected with donated milk, not Mom's own milk,
which will contain the antibodies along with the virus (why not donor milk
too? because it's pooled?) Also CMV is destroyed by heating and freezing.
Baby in question is 34 weeks gestation. Mom contracted CMV during
pregnancy; baby I believe tested negative. To be honest Mom and Dad are not
that bothered; blindly following dr's expert orders ie waiting to have
Mom's (pumped) milk tested for the virus to see "if she will ever be able
to breastfeed". Looking at me like crazy rental pump lady thinks she might
know better than the doctor.
I assume Mom can pump until baby reaches "term" and then BF her, if nothing
else?
Looking to increase my knowledge for future reference even if this case is
beyond hope...
