Hi everyone,

I have spoken to a mom whose 2 month old baby has been diagnosed
with 'lactose colitis'. Thankfully the GI specialist and pediatrician have
recommended continued breastfeeding. I remember lengthy discussions about
this on lactnet in the past, but I can't seem to find what I'm looking
for. Any suggestions about what to look under would be appreciated. I'm
just looking for some references for this mom to help her understand this a
bit better. I've also come across some posts about eliminating dairy/soy.
This mom is drinks 6 plus cups a milk, a day alone......not to mention
other dairy products, but is not really open to elimination at this point,
and has been told by her specialist that there is 'no proof that this
works'. This baby feeds frequently during the day - does one breast per
feeding, mom does have a very strong let-down, but I don't think
oversupply. (Birth weight 6lbs 9ounces, at 2 months 8lbs 12 ounces.)
Breastfeeding is going well for this mom of three......but if it became too
much work I believe she would quit.

thanks for any thoughts,

Kerri Zandberg, RN, BScN, IBCLC, Private Practice
